Squamish Days Loggers Sports

Website Design & Build · Brand Style Development

Squamish Days Loggers Sports has been running for nearly 70 years. It’s Squamish’s longest-running community event — a four-day festival drawing world-class competitors from around the globe for tree climbs, saw races, axe throwing, birling, and the Sunday show that sells out every single year. The event is beloved. The website was not.

The old site was bare-bones and hard to navigate — a mismatch with the energy and heritage of the event it was supposed to represent. Information was difficult to find, there was no visual identity to speak of, and first-time visitors had no real sense of what they were about to experience. For an event this special, that gap mattered.

Dara, volunteer treasurer and long-time Squamish Days champion, reached out knowing Ruth’s work. She knew what the site needed to become.

A laptop on a wicker table displays a website for the "Loggers Sports Shows," featuring event dates, a photo of a large outdoor crowd, and a countdown timer. A glass of water and books are on the table beside it.

The Work

The logo was already there — established, recognizable, loved by the community. What was missing was everything around it. We took the Squamish Days mark and built a full visual style for the website: bold typography, custom graphics, hand-crafted illustrations and icons, rich texture, and a custom illustrative map of the festival grounds that gives visitors an immediate sense of the place and the event.

The content architecture was rebuilt from scratch — organized so that anyone landing on the site can find what they need quickly, whether that’s the schedule, ticket information, or details on a specific competition. Third-party ticketing was integrated cleanly, and the schedule was built directly into the site. The whole thing was designed to be manageable for a volunteer-run organization, without sacrificing any of the visual impact.

The result is a site that finally matches the event — bold, energetic, and full of character.

The Result

A tablet on a wooden surface displays the Loggers Sports Shows website, featuring a countdown timer, colorful buttons, event details, and an outdoor event photo with mountains and trees in the background.

When Dara shared the site with board members who hadn’t yet seen the proofs, the reaction came in fast. “Oh wow! I’m barely through the first page and I’m choked up.” And: “Holy what a huge improvement! Easy to navigate, well laid out, great imagery and cute icons. It really looks fantastic.”

That’s what good design does. It makes people feel something — especially when it’s about something they already love.

"We couldn't be more thrilled with the website that Ruth built us. Not only is it beautiful, functional, and thoughtfully designed for easy management — but it's GORGEOUS. So glad we chose an expert who could translate our website vision into stunning reality. Having seen Ruth's work over the years, we were glad to finally be able to work with her and would recommend her unconditionally."
