While I was browsing the internet over the christmas period,  I came across these amazing 3D Paper Sculptures by Canadian artist Calvin Nicholls. He started out as a graphic designer and in the 1980’s developed his skills in paper art and origami to become this amazing paper sculptor his is today.

Calvin creates these incredible sculptures by tracing individual pieces from the detailed drawing and then transferring them to paper and cutting them out with small scalpels, he then glues them with a very small amount of glue and a tooth pick, working up in layers to the final piece.

His art is available as sculptures, prints online on his website and he has also created pieces for advertising campaigns, private collectors, institutions, book publishers, corporate gift companies and galleries. Below are a few more amazing examples.

I even found this amazing sculpture of Whistler Blackcomb (His Facebook pages mentions that this piece was shipped up to Whistler, I have asked if it is on public display – and will keep you updated if I found out.)

I would love to see it in person, as I don’t think this image really illustrates how amazing and detailed it actually is.
